Case Scenario

Post by Startyde on Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:30 pm

Just thinking of this the other day.

WE keep games sealed to keep them complete and pristine. But how far does that mentality go?

Say you came accross old factory stock, and you found a sealed cardboard case that said something rediculous...like Final Fantasy III SNES, or Panzer Dragoon Saga or Radiant Silvergun's.

You realzie it's a sealed box of a rare game. What would you do?

On one hand, you want to verify if it's true, but then you would have opened the box? Does a sealed case factor into your sealed nature? Say you get past this and open and they are indeed in there? Do you sell a few copies and "break" what may be the only sealed case set of this game in existance?

Decisions decisions...

the sealed set should be opened because the inside's must be identified. If you did identify them as real, then you could just seal the box back up, as the boxes just use standard tape.

Personally, I'd break apart the set and sell. I see no value in keeping an actual set.

If you had such a case you would have to think "Who would buy such a case in this condition?" - If the intention is to sell, then it's worth breaking open to verify contents. After all, one would assume the contents would also be factory sealed, so no harm done, yes? It's not as if you'd be selling the un-opened crate to anyone, and if you did then they would surely want confirmation of it's contents anyway.

Assuming it's a case of ten copies, it would be wise to open and sell a handful, keep a couple for your own collection, and the remainder as "Future investment". If there were such a person interested in obtaining a case of sealed Paper Mario's or Rez's, then chances are they would only be interested for profit anyway, and would eventually have the same decision to make. I know I would be very suspicious of anyone selling a case of sealed Suikoden's or something, and unless it's from a reputable seller, I would require confirmation of the case contents.

I know of at least one reputable seller on eBay who has previously sold cases of sealed PAL Dreamcast games though. Nothing special, just Chu Chu Rocket and Virtua Fighter 3TB and stuff like that, but same scenario - Sealed case of sealed games. As a reputable dealer of Dreamcast games, I would trust him if he sold a sealed case of 10 x factory sealed Samba De Amigo's, but there are dodgy sellers out there who would gladly con you taking advantage of the fact that people like us exist who they can guarantee won't ever open the case to prove the existence of the contents - What could be a sealed case of 10 x Symphony Of The Night could quite as easily be a case of 10 x Fifa 2000

honestly, I think a sealed case of sealed games is taking it a tad too far.

True.

I think a whole set with sealed Chrono Triggers in an unsealed cardbord box is not bad, almost even better than a sealed cardbox which says "Chrono Trigger x 10". What would you loose, come on, sealed cases of games is like striker said a bit too much.
