Post by Gemini-Phoenix on Sun Aug 19, 2007 9:04 am

So far I have put off buying a Wii as I am waiting for Nintendo to release the console in other colours, or perhaps a Limited Edition console. Until now there hasn't really been many games for it that I am really interested in, apart from the few first-party Nintendo titles such as Twilight Princess, Mario Strikers Charged, and Warioware as well as Resident Evil 4

A few weeks ago I bought my first Wii game! Mario Party 8! Unable to buy the game on it's original launch (It got recalled by Nintendo and pulled off shop shelves due to a small percentage having an error), I tried bidding on many on eBay but the prices kept rising and rising. I then bought the game as soon as it was rereleased on the 3rd August 2007

I'll chronicle my Wii collecting in this thread and update it every time I buy a new Wii game.

List of sealed Wii games:

Twilight Princess was originally going to be my first Wii purchase, but I happened to be in my local Tesco supermarket and saw Mario Party 8 for under £30, so I snapped it up. I think it was on a special offer or something for that week only, the same as Pokemon Diamond and Pearl both were when they were released

It compliments my Mario Party sub-collection too, meaning I have nine out of the ten Mario Party games released in the series (Only missing the first game now) ~ Unfortunately, only six of those nine titles are sealed, as the first three I bought I actually opened to play at the time (Mario Party 3 for N64; Mario Party 4 for GameCube; And Mario Party-e for GBA eReader)

Still, not too bad for a first purchase!

Picked up Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam today for just £15, whch I didn't think was too bad a price for a Wii game, even though it was a launch title

I now have a grand total of 9 Wii games, as of this week. There's not really a lot of games on the Wii I really want, having only about seven or eight more I wish to get which are released at the moment. There's a few I am looking forward to in the future, but nothing that reall stands out as an A+ title ~ I suspect that like the GameCube, the Wii will get all it's better games later on in its life (Smash Bros Brawl is one I am looking forward to!)

I hope we'll see a Kirby game for the Wii, so long as it's not yet another poor quality app which just has Kirby slapped on it to help it sell better (Eg, Kirby Air Ride, which was lame to say the least). A new Yoshi game would be nice (A 3D version of Yoshi's Island would be great!), and we still have an Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Mario Kart game to look forward to, not to mention at least two Final Fantasy titles.

Third party titles seem very poor, with only a few innovative games of any interest to me (Eledees and Cooking Mama are just a couple that get my juices flowing)

Lately i've added Eledees; Pokemon: Battle Revolution; Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles; Super Mario Galaxy; And Super Paper Mario

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen And The Tower Of Mirrors
Death Jr: Root Of Evil

It would've been a much nicer package if the original and Xmas NiGHTS were included as well. I think the Wii is a perfect platform for re-introducing old Saturn titles to a new audience and generation. SEGA have already realised the potential with House Of The Dead and NiGHTS, not to mention a few Dreamcast specials such as Samba De Amigo - So it's only a matter of time before they give franchises such as Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Cop, and Clockwork Knight a rebirth

I did think about collecting Wii-Games sealed. They look so nice ^^ I have seen a Harvest Moon for ~12£, should I take it? Or is it worth near to nothing?

Great collection btw Wink

Seems like a good price to me! And if past Harvest Moon games are anything to go by, it'll become very hard to get hold of at a later date

As with the GameCube, I tend to only aim for the first party Nintendo titles and Wii exclusives, or games that have a unique variation due to the Wii's control style. I have also added a few games that fit into various sub-collections too.

If the current prices of various GameCube games are anything to go by, then some of these titles will surely be in demand in the near future. Personally I think the ones to watch are the few RPG's that are available, such as Dragon Quest Swords and Fire Emblem, plus anything from Konami is always a safe bet

Added sealed copies of Wii Music and Samba De Amigo today

Wii Music is interesting in the sense that A) I managed to find a copy of it sealed, with tear strip (As most stores didn't have it sealed at all); And B) It is one of the first games to feature the new style Nintendo tear strip design

Even though the UK and JP got screwed on the censorship, No More Heros is really fun.

And otherwise? How do you choose which games you buy? I mean you have a very huge collection...

The Wii games I buy are mainly first-party Nintendo titles and Wii exclusive's. I buy the games I want to play, or games that belong to a franchise I like. In respect to Wii games, a lot of them I have purely by default as they form part of a sub-collection (Ie, Zelda; Resident Evil; Pokemon etc), but which are also games from a franchise I like.

My collection is generally built on the 'Stick to what you know' philosophy, meaning you can't really go far wrong with sequels. There's a fair few Sega games included here too (NiGHTS, Samba De Amigo, Super Monkey Ball, House Of The Dead).
